Organic Vases
Challenge
Continuing to gain an understanding of 3D for Motion Design, this project focuses on the use of organic modeling. As well as further practicing lightning, texturing, and UV mapping.
The Approach
This animation specifically focused on the idea of morphing pottery and vases. Highlighting various vase shapes and fruits. As well as practicing 3D interior lighting.

Process
Procedural Morphing
Instead of using pose-morph to transition between vases, I opted for more control over the animation's overlap and follow-through. Using a tracer linked through eight individual nulls. Then plugged into a lath object to wrap the line around 360 degrees, allowing me to play with various vase shapes.
Leaf Rigging
After finalizing the vase movement, animation time was saved by rigging the leaves and fruits with joints. Using Cinema4D's 'IK' tag allowed the rig to react to dynamics and parented object movement. Needing only minor adjustments to avoid leaves from phasing through the vase.
Additional Lighting in Post
The specific light ray I wanted to achieve during lighting would not show up well among other 3D lights. Instead, the ray was made in After Effects using a shape layer, compound blur, and a gradient map to create falloff. Then parenting this shape to tracking points tracked to the lamps movement.
